Manchester Business School Case Study

Virtual Careers Platform Connects Global Talent

SITUATION

Since Manchester Business School opened in 1965 it has welcomed approximately 50,000 students from around the world. The MBS spirit embodies Manchester’s rich history of innovation—the application of original thinking is at the heart of everything it does.

Home to the UK’s leading center for business research, its doctoral program is ranked number one in the world and its rigorous MBA returns an average 116% salary increase within three years. MBS has a strong global network with six International Centers in the US, Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Brazil and over 40,000 alumni worldwide.

The best MBA programs are measured on the employability of their graduates and the school’s ability to create connections that lead to job offers. In today’s volatile economy it’s more important than ever for recruiters and MBAs to build mutually beneficial relationships.

The traditional MBA recruitment model often sees companies visiting campuses to showcase opportunities and meet students. However, MBS wanted to enhance its successful on-campus activity to by linking up its 4,000 MBAs in 100+ countries with companies seeking talent in all corners of the globe.

SOLUTION

MBS selected West Unified Communications Services to create a virtual environment to increase the reach and success of its recruitment initiatives. Now companies and students from around the world “meet” and interact virtually in the Global Campus. Students from across the world hear from senior company executives in the lecture theatre; meet with HR teams in small groups or one-to-one sessions and can even network with potential colleagues and alumni. The Global Campus can be easily customized to represent a different city, reflecting the global character of the school and its recruiting program. Events can showcase a single company, allowing highly targeted recruitment in a setting in line with corporate branding.

RESULTS

Global Campus has already been a success enabling companies such as Lloyds Banking Group to virtually meet Manchester’s best MBAs. Alison Edmonds, Head of Global Careers Services, said: “At MBS we champion the use of original thinking, not only in our teaching, but in the services and opportunities we offer our students. Global Campus is great example of this - combining innovative technology with our industry expertise and networks to connect leading companies and our MBAs across the world. In an acutely competitive recruitment market, it enables the best companies to access a talent pool of our MBAs from across the world.”

The school was quick to see that the possibilities of its virtual environment extend well beyond recruiting. As the Career’sTeam developed the recruiting program they were already planning leadership outreach and alumni events to expand MBS’ international footprint.
