When it comes to employee engagement, webcasts can offer a cost-effective solution for leadership teams to communicate company updates and business initiatives to a global workforce.
However, employee engagement goes beyond just keeping people inspired and aligned with company goals. Therefore, your webcasting efforts should also aspire to be more than just “another channel” for corporate communication.
When leveraged strategically, webcasts can offer organizations a chance to provide internal networking opportunities, frequent connection to company leadership and important skill development.
Customize Webcasts to Increase Internal Networking Opportunities
If you live stream your town halls or kick-off events, you should customize the webcast to better mimic the onsite experience.
In person, people tend to sit with their team members and reconnect with other departments, which yield opportunities for internal networking. Configure your webcast to have similar benefits.
For instance, group employees into smaller sections—perhaps by department, role and function. Then, push the video feed from your event to multiple, simultaneous webcasts.
Employees will still benefit from watching the webcast but their viewing experiences can be much more meaningful. It allows for more dynamic chat activity, increased responsiveness in Q&A and targeted resources.
Increase the Frequency of Leadership-Led Webcasts
A misconception that exists regarding executive-led webcasts is that they must be full production events (i.e. cameras, crews, studios). This can hinder the scheduling of future broadcasts.
However, any opportunity for leadership to connect with employees can be beneficial—especially through video.
These days, it’s not uncommon to see a CEO do a weekly vlog or host a regular “ask me anything” session as a way to create transparency and build trust with employees.
Today’s webcast technology is more robust and powerful than ever before, with features that make it easy to run a professional webcast directly from an office.
Executive teams should feel more confident in delivering a series of branded, secure, high-quality webcasts to their employees on a regular basis.
Invite More Employees to Participate in Webcasts for Skill Development
Webcasts shouldn’t be limited to just the events team (production).and the leadership team (hosts).
LinkedIn lists “persuasion” and “video production” as the top in-demand soft and hard skills, respectively. What better way to learn these skills than through webcasts?
Ask an employee to help develop an internal webcast series, such as lunch-and-learns on a topic or project. You can also invite an employee to be a moderator or panelist in an upcoming webcast and allow them to develop their persuasion skills.
Having on-camera experience and behind-the-scenes involvement will create more opportunities for employees to grow and gain the necessary skills for today’s workplace.
Leverage Webcasts for the Experience—Not Just Messaging
On their own, webcast platforms won’t create more loyal or productive employees.
However, the time spent customizing, utilizing and optimizing webcasts might enhance the way employees build community, stay connected and grow in your company.
And that is a HUGE part of employee engagement.
